Hi there.

We’re Origin Broadband. It’s sensible to want to know a bit more about a company before you get in touch, so here’s a potted history and a bunch of links for background info.

 

What’s this new fibre optic broadband all about then?

The UK’s broadband access is patchy to say the least. In South Yorkshire the lovely people in Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley have suffered more than most with rubbish broadband. So when funding was made available for a brand new fibre optic broadband network, South Yorkshire jumped at the chance.

Yorkshire Forward, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Sheffield City Council banded together to give South Yorkshire a new fibre optic network. A company called Digital Region was formed to deliver the network, and it’s actually, finally, here!

The best bit? South Yorkshire is the first and (currently) only place in the UK to have it.

So who are Origin Broadband?

Good question. We are a supplier on the Digital Region network, and we're a new company that offer residential services on this new fibre optic network. We’re based in Sheffield at the minute, but we were started by two chaps from Doncaster (or Donny as most people call it) and we’re pretty excited about the speeds we can offer. On this new fibre optic network, homes can get up to 40 meg speeds which, for most people, is the fastest broadband they’ve ever had access to.

So, that’s us. Use the postcode checker to see if your area is live yet. If it isn’t please, please drop us an email. New areas are going live every week and we’ll drop you an email when your area is live. Saves you checking all the time, right?

 

Why choose us?

First thing’s first: This is a different fibre optic network to the ones that BT and Virgin own. Even if you’ve never had fibre optic broadband in your area before, chances are you could have it now.  Check here to see.

We are a local company, set up by two guys from Doncaster and based in Sheffield. We started this company because we were frustrated at rubbish broadband speeds, so we feel your pain. More than that, we’re passionate about South Yorkshire. We love it here and although we’re only a young company, we’re trying to support other local businesses, charities and cultural things where we can.
